Just before 11pm Monday night, police were called to Huron Church Road and Malden after a cyclist was struck by a car.

Police say that the 72-year-old male cyclist was riding his bicycle north on the sidewalk when he crossed Malden Road through the crosswalk.

An SUV was also heading northbound and was making a left turn in accordance with the left turn signal and when he got into the crosswalk his vehicle was struck by the cyclist.

The cyclist was nursing a sore ankle and was taken to hospital to be checked. His bicycle had a bent front wheel.

The 18-year-old driver of a 2009 Cadillac Escalade was not injured and the vehicle had about $750.00 damage to the right front corner.

Police say that no charges were laid at this time, however they warn that cyclists need to be aware that it is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act to ride their bicycle through a pedestrian crosswalk. They need to be walking their bicycles through crosswalks.
