Last week, members of the Windsor RCMP concluded a brief investigation into the sale and distribution of contraband tobacco products. As a result of the investigation a Windsor man was arrested and is currently facing charges under the Excise Act 2001.

RCMP officers seized 345 cartons of cigarettes, a vehicle and approximately $600 in cash.

“The trade in illicit tobacco is a burden on all Canadians. It contributes to the growth of an underground economy and has been known to fund organized crime”, stated Inspector Serge Cote, Officer in Charge of Windsor Detachment. “The RCMP is committed to targeting this type of crime, and working with other law enforcement partners to ensure we enjoy safe homes and safe communities”

The suspect is scheduled to appear in Windsor Provincial court on July 29th.
