On Sunday OPP in Lakeshore say that they had to use a spike belt to stop a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

OPP say it happened around 3:45 am, after they attempted to stop a westbound vehicle on Essex County Road 42.

Police then used a spike belt and the front tires deflated causing the vehicle to come to a stop just west of Elmstead Road.

The male and sole occupant of the vehicle ran into the field and further into a bush on the north side of the roadway. Police pursued the male on foot but were unsuccessful in locating the suspect.

Later the same evening, a male attended the Lakeshore detachment to turn himself in and admitted to being the driver.

Zachary Campeau, age 23 of Red Deer, Alberta, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, race a motor vehicle, flight from police officer and driving a motor vehicle not equipped with an approved ignition interlock device.

He will appear in a Windsor court on June 4th.
