This afternoon City of Windsor officials accepted a cheque from Lowe’s Canada to support renovations to the 38-year-old Forest Glade arena.

The grant comes from Lowe’s Rink Reno Program, a program that was created with the goal to rebuild the infrastructure of minor hockey, one rink at a time.

The grant will be used accelerate needed upgrades to the arena’s which include painting, replacement of tile and plumbing fixtures in the dressing room showers, replacement of rubberized flooring, and improvements to landscaping.

The twin pad arena with a community room serves as a major recreation facility for the city, but the facility has had minimal upgrades since it was built in 1975.

Each year, the Lowe’s grant program works with Hockey Canada to select two neighbourhood rinks in need of renovation. This year, Windsor and London are recipients of the program’s funding.
