Just after 3am Wednesday a Chatham woman returned home and was subsequently attacked by her son. The man allegedly began to choke his mother and threatened to kill her. The man then allegedly punched the woman in the face several times and head butted her.

The woman was then held in the apartment against her will. Eventually the man fell asleep and the woman was able to flee the apartment and notify the police. The woman was treated for her injuries.

Police say that earlier this year, the same man entered into a probation order with several conditions which included a non-association, communication, or contact order with his mother.

Shortly before noon yesterday Chatham-Kent Police located and arrested the man.

The 31-year-old Chatham man was charged with numerous criminal offences including breach of probation, choking, uttering threats, assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement.

The man was held in custody pending a bail hearing this morning.
