Early this morning at approximately 12:15am, police officers on regular patrol saw a brown minivan travelling through the old Home Depot parking lot off of Sydney Avenue in Windsor.

Officers were aware a brown minivan had been reported stolen the previous night and turned their police cruiser around to follow the vehicle. When the officers activated the police cruiser emergency lights in an attempt to stop the minivan, the van was approaching Sydney Avenue and two males ran from the driver’s side door of the minivan through the Devonshire Mall parking lot.

Officers pursued the suspects on foot. One of the males was arrested after a brief chase. The second male was located and arrested without incident a short distance from the scene. When officers checked inside the minivan they observed several bundles of roofing shingles.

At 12:34am while officers were investigating the occurrence, the owner of the minivan called police dispatch to report the van had been stolen by a man who had attended his residence to look at the van, which was for sale. The man and his friend took the van for a short test drive and returned to the owner’s residence. The owner went inside his home for a minute and when he came out the men and his minivan were gone. The vehicle owner advised he did not own the shingles in the minivan. Officers are continuing to investigate the origin of the roofing shingles.

A 27 year old male and a 20 year old male, both of Windsor, are facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter and theft, and two counts of possession of stolen property obtained by crime.
