Essex OPP are warning the public and also looking for assistance in identifying a man in a “quick change” scam that is appearing around Essex County.

On three separate occasions in Essex and Tecumseh in the past two weeks, OPP say a lone male has approached a store clerk and asked for change for a large denomination bill. The clerk then retrieves the change from the cash register in smaller bills and proceeds to give the change to the male, who then leaves the store without handing in the large denomination bill.

Police believe it is the same man involved in all three instances. He is described as being in his 40’s, blonde hair, approximately 5’7” tall, medium build, bilingual without a French accent and had a friendly demeanor.

Contact the Essex County Crime Unit at 519-723-2491 if you recognize the man.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2000.
