UPDATE 11:33am: Gas has been completely shut off, the Fire Department will be leaving soon and the tunnel is expected to reopen shortly.

UPDATE 10:42am: Crews from Union Gas have shut off five gas mains in the area and 100 customers are without gas. The leak has stopped and wind is helping the residual gas to dissipate.

The Windsor-Detroit tunnel and streets leading to it are closed due to a gas leak at the tunnel plaza.

Firefighters are on scene at Wyandotte and Goyeau after construction crews building the new plaza struck a gas line.

Wyandotte traffic is blocked between Ouellette and Windsor Avenue and Goyeau and Dufferin are blocked at Tuscarora.

Firefighters have completely shut down access to the tunnel until the gas can be turned off.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 4″ natural gas line was struck and is leaking. Fire officials say the tunnel is closed as a precaution only such that there is no danger to anyone in the tunnel itself.
