Hotel Dieu Doctor Award Nominations Now Open

Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital is seeking nominations from the community for their 2nd Annual Dr. Percy Demers Physician Excellence Award.

In honour of the late Dr. Demers, who served with distinction at HDGH from 1960-2002, this prestigious award recognizes outstanding contributions to physician education, leadership, and patient care.

“This annual award provides us with an opportunity to highlight a top physician at HDGH,” said Dr. Gord Vail, HDGH Chief of Staff, who will gather together an HDGH panel once again this year to decide on candidates. “It may be a physician known to the community, or little known. It could recognize many years of service; a unique skill set; above-and-beyond approaches to patient care; or a combination of these and other factors.”

Dr. Demers was an extraordinarily gifted and compassionate healer who was a valued mentor and friend to many physicians, cardiac-caregivers and staff. He will forever be remembered for his leadership in establishing a cardiac care program of excellence for the residents of Windsor-Essex.

Dr. Jack Speirs, an interventional radiologist and Department Chief and Medical Director of HDGH’s Diagnostic Imaging Department, was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Dr. Percy Demers Physician Excellence Award in 2012.

The panel of peers and colleagues will decide the winner after receiving feedback from staff as well as patients and families in Windsor-Essex who are also welcome to provide their own suggestions based on care received at HDGH.
