Windsor’s biggest Winter Storm of the season is projected to hit this afternoon and the City of Windsor is taking the necessary steps in preparation for it.

Environment Canada says that a low pressure system over Arkansas is forecast to track northeast to Illinois this afternoon then to Northern Ohio by Wednesday morning.

Current indications show that a mixture of wet snow and rain will move into our region this afternoon, as temperatures will be near or slightly above the zero degree mark.

The City of Windsor expects that Windsor could see between 8 and 15 centimetres of snow by Wednesday morning. The storm is expected to start off as rain which will gradually turn into snow late this afternoon and into the evening.

The City’s 21 salt trucks will concentrate on main roads as a first priority. The City says salting and/or plowing the main roads will begin once snow or freezing rain begins.

Depending on the temperature and snow accumulation over night, roads may be snow covered for the Wednesday morning commute.
