Just after 3am this morning, Windsor Police say they were called by a number of citizens reporting an intoxicated driver who caused a collision at Wyandotte and Askin. They say callers also indicated that the driver was trying to flee the scene.

Police report when they arrived they found a 2009 Nissan up against a parking meter.

Witnesses to the crash told police that they went to aid of the driver who became aggressive towards them, trying to leave the scene, however they prevented him from doing so.

The officers spoke with the male driver and determined he was impaired. The man was arrested.

Police say that by examining the damage to the car and speaking to other witnesses, the impaired driver apparently collided with another car on Wyandotte Street and left the scene of that collision. He sped away and turned onto Askin losing control where he ran into the parking meter.

The car sustained about $10,000 damage, the meter was not damaged. The car from the first collision, a 2000 Mercury, sustained about $4,000 damage.

The driver, a 22 year old Windsor man is facing charges of Impaired Driving Refusing a breath test, Leaving the scene of a collision, and driving while under suspension.
