The Meadowbrook Lane housing area as seen in Google Earth

Firefighters responded after 9pm Monday evening to the 2700 block of Meadowbrook Lane and found black smoke coming from the building, a four-storey residential housing complex.

Firefighters found fire in the basement, in a storage room, with smoke spreading up to the top floor of residence. Fire crews rescued a woman from her apartment and others have been treated for smoke inhalation.

Crews extinguished the fire within minutes and it is believed the fire has not spread.

A Transit Windsor bus was called in to keep displaced residents out of the cold night air.

Two people were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation, and one person was admitted.  Four people were displaced from their home.

Officials say that the fire started in a storage unit.  Damage is estimated at $40,000.  The cause is undetermined.
