Windsor Fire Chief Bruce Montone from the windsoriteDOTca files

This afternoon, Windsor Fire & Rescue Services held a Civilian Commendation Ceremony where they recognized five people for outstanding acts of heroism in the face of two emergencies that took place in 2012.

Enrico DeChellis and Jackie Pazitka (who received her commendation prior to today’s ceremony) were recognized for their efforts in administering CPR to a restaurant patron who suffered a medical emergency in October of 2012 on the city’s east side.  As a result of their quick action while awaiting emergency personnel, the patient regained consciousness before being transported to hospital.

Three Dollarama staff members and one customer were recognized as well. Shift supervisor Josh Wells; cashiers Hayley Bachman and Tyler Hurst; and customer Christopher Hutnik were all instrumental in evacuating customers, alerting 911 and extinguishing a fire that broke out at the Wyandotte Street East Dollarama store on November 19, 2012.

“Heroes come in many forms, and you never know when you may be called upon to be one yourself,” said Chief Bruce Montone. “The individuals recognized today are an example to all of us, as they have demonstrated admirably what great things we can accomplish when we act quickly and selflessly in the face of emergencies
