Ottawa Street as seen on Google Street View

Around 3:45 this morning, Windsor Police were called to the 1200 block of Ottawa Street where a car struck a hydro pole knocking it down.

Witnesses tell police that the male driver of the car was seen staggering away from the scene and he seemed to be impaired.

When police arrived they found a 2003 Ford Escape with heavy front-end damage and the hydro pole underneath it. Police located a 37-year-old male in Lanspeary Park who was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.

He was brought to Police Headquarters for a breathalyzer which he refused to take. He faces an additional charge of refusing to take a breathalyzer. His car was impounded for seven days and license suspended for 90 days.

The vehicle sustained about $8,000 damage and the pole damage is estimated to be about $2,500.
