Amherstburg Police are investigating a violent attack that occurred in the early morning hours on Sunday that has left a 33 year old Windsor man in critical condition.

At approximately 3:36am police responded to reports of an unconscious man laying face down on the front lawn of 339 Fort Street in the town of Amherstburg. Upon arrival officers found the victim had severe trauma to the head. The victim was transported to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Witnesses report that during a social gathering at the Fort Street address a verbal altercation occurred between the victim and another male. The altercation turned violent and the victim was attacked and beaten unconscious.

The suspect was later located and arrested by police. A 32 year old Amherstburg man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
