Windsor firefighters have extinguished an apartment blaze near the University of Windsor.
Fire broke out in a unit on the second floor at the rear of Bridgeview Tower Apartments around 2:15am Wednesday, and crews were quickly dispatched to the scene.
Several dozen onlookers gathered outside to watch as firefighters worked to extinguished the blaze from inside, while fire crews with a ladder broke exterior windows to properly ventilate smoke and heat from the fiery apartment unit.
Crews reported that nobody was in the apartment unit when they arrived, and the fire does not appear to have spread to any other units. There are no reported injuries at this time.
Firefighters are working to remove smoke from the entire seven-story building at the time of this writing.
The exact cause of the blaze is under investigation, however officials say that the fire did begin in the unit’s closet.
