Construction will get underway in the new year on a brand new Benson-Taylor Public School in the West end.  The new school which will move students from Benson and Dr. H.D Taylor into one building, will be built on existing land on the Taylor school property facing Campbell Avenue.

The new school building has been designed by Glos Assoicates as will feature 54,190 square feet of learning space on two floors with space for 529 students.  The property will also have a bus bay, kiss n’ ride area and 79 parking spaces.

Construction is slated to begin in mid March 2013 with students moving in one year later.  Once complete, the old Taylor school will then be demolished around May or June 2014.  Total cost of the new school is $9,988,077. There’s no word exactly what will happen with the old Benson building.

The new school has a working name of “Campbell Street School”.
