1000 block of Jefferson as seen in Google Earth

Windsor Police have a drunk driver in custody after he slammed his car into a tree on Jefferson early this morning.

Around 4:45am, Police say a 24 old Windsor man was driving his car at a high rate of speed northbound on Jefferson.

A 37-year-old newspaper delivery employee was parked in the area, preparing papers to be delivered, when she heard the sound of the approaching car. The woman turned and saw that it was coming towards her.

Police say she managed to get out of the way and the male driving the car missed her narrowly, left the roadway and struck a tree in the 1000 block of Jefferson. The woman was not hurt but was shaken up.

The male driver broke his ankle and suffered a collapsed lung as a result of the impact. He was taken to hospital where he was admitted. Police say his car was totally demolished.

Windsor Police Staff Sergeant Steve Bodri says the male was arrested for impaired Operation of a motor vehicle.
