Around 5:45 Saturday afternoon Windsor Police say that they were contacted by a concerned citizen about a car that was driving at a high rate of speed and erratically on the Expressway near Central going westbound.

Police were able to locate the car in South Windsor on Dominion, and made an attempt to stop the 1988 Chevrolet Corvette. The driver ignored the officers.

Police pulled up alongside of the car and the officer yelled to the driver to pull over. The car stopped and when the officer spoke with the 52-year-old male driver the officer could smell odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver from Windsor was arrested for impaired driving and was brought to Police Headquarters where he took a breathalyzer test and blew nearly 2-1/2 times the legal limit.

As a result police charged the individual with impaired operation and exceeding the breathalyzer, his car was impounded for seven days as well.

Staff Sergeant Steve Bodri says that this is the third event the last few days where the public have assisted the police with reporting suspected impaired drivers. He says that these efforts between the public and police go a long way to keep the streets in Windsor safe for all who use them.
