Amherstburg Police have charged a female cyclist and the driver of a pick up who hit her following an incident before noon yesterday.

On Tuesday November 6th at 11:37am Amherstburg Police were dispatched to the corner of Sandwich Street North and St. Arnaud Street Town of Amherstburg for a 68 year old female cyclist struck by a pick up truck driven by a 61 year old man.

The cyclist was transported to hospital for minor injuries and was later released.

Investigation into the accident showed the cyclist was riding on the side walk and crossing the intersection through the crosswalk at the time of the accident.

The cyclist was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with one count of “Cyclist – ride in or along crosswalk” and the driver of the pickup was also charged with “Turn – not in safety”.

Amherstburg Police say cyclists should ride in a straight line on the side of the roadway in the same direction as traffic and follow all traffic signals and signs.
