Last Wednesday October 3rd, members of the Windsor RCMP Detachment Team conducted an investigation into the sale and distribution of contraband tobacco products and arrested two Windsor men. The men were charged with the sale and distribution of contraband tobacco from a vehicle in the area of Wyandotte Street East.

RCMP officers seized 44 cartons of unstamped tobacco, a 2002 Hyundai vehicle, and a small amount of currency.

“Anytime we can stop illegal activities such as the sale of contraband tobacco it reinforces our commitment to safe streets and communities through the active enforcement of the laws of Canada” stated Cpl. Anne Garneau of the Windsor RCMP Detachment Team.

Charged under the Excise Act 2001 and Criminal Code are Adel Ali Rahimeh, a 45 year old Windsor resident of Niagara Street, and Talih Ibraham Khanafer, aged 33 of Dufferin Street in Windsor. They are scheduled to appear in court on November 5th.

Police ask that if you have information about the sale and distribution of illegal tobacco products or any other criminal activity to contact your local police department or your nearest RCMP Detachment at 1-800-387-0020, or you can anonymously supply information through Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
