Windsor firefighters have extinguished a small apartment fire in the 1000 block of Windsor Avenue.

Crews were called just after 7pm for reports of smoke coming from the rear of the building. Responding firefighters from nearby Station 1 had the blaze under control within minutes.

Firefighters pulled a charred and still-burning mattress out of the multi-unit apartment building. There are no reported injuries at this time.

The cause of the fire could not be determined, but fire started on the mattress. Damage to the building is pegged at $55,000. No one was home at the time the fire started.
