Dollar Tree will be the next tenant to join a brand new FreshCo at the spot of West Windsor’s former Zellers store on Hurch Church Road.

An authority to construct notice posted to the door of the recently renovated property — which sits to the left of soon-to-open FreshCo — states that “Dollar Tree” is the lessee of the storefront. Construction crews worked throughout the day Monday and Tuesday on the interior of the building and just last week painted a characteristic Dollar-Tree-green patch of stucco on the unit’s upper facade.

The US retailer, which jumped into the Canadian market recently, prides itself on a motto of “Everything’s $1.25 or less” and sells items from stationery to toiletries, food, school supplies, holiday items and much more.

Dollar Tree is new to the Windsor-Essex area, having opened two stores only last year: one at 61 Talbot Street North in Essex and another at 288 Erie Street South in Leamington.

A fourth Dollar Tree location is planned for Walker Road where construction has begun to build a new A&W restaurant.

Really, do we need a location on Walker Rd? I understand it’s a commercial centre, but they couldn’t fit anywhere else in the city?

It’s also good to see that the old Zellers is filling up quite nicely, although too bad they weren’t able to attract a Giant Tiger or a Liquidation World. Even if it wasn’t the greatest Zellers location, it was still convenient having a discount store for many people. It’s just too bad this plaza is becoming a duplicate of University Plaza (Metro -> FreshCo, Dollarama -> Dollar Tree, Shoppers -> Pharmasave).
