The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit’s 2012/2013 flu program is now underway.

The Health Unit says that everyone should consider getting a flu shot, especially young children over six months old and residents and staff of long-term care facilities.

The following people and those who care for them benefit most from immunization:

  • The elderly (65 years and older)
  • People with chronic medical conditions, including morbid obesity
  • Pregnant women
  • Healthy children from six months to five years old
  • Healthcare workers
  • Household contacts and care providers of persons at high risk, who cannot be immunized or may not respond to the vaccine

You must live, work, or go to school in Ontario to be eligible for the vaccine.
