While it may be a traffic headache for many, construction taking place on Walker Road near the expressway is around halfway done and is well on its way to relieving serious traffic congestion issues for the future.

Work started back in the summer to widen the stretch of Walker between Digby Street and Foster Avenue. The spirit of the project included a plan to add a central left turning lane to a majority of the stretch with a goal of eliminating backups in the left lane caused by turning drivers — an all too familiar problem on busy and congested Walker Road.

Construction crews wrapped up concrete paving and curbs on the east side of the street a few weeks back and traffic shifted to the completed roadway. Crews are paving the western side of the road.

The scope of the project includes new sewers and watermains and of course, a new concrete road surface along the stretch — including the on and off ramps of EC Row.

The City of Windsor planned for the EC Row ramps at Walker to remain closed until December 15th however favourable weather may bring the end date of the project ahead sooner.
