The Essex County OPP have charged a motorcycle rider and have impounded his bike after he was caught doing 165 km/h on the 401.

The incident happened yesterday, Labour Day, as part of the OPP’s Labour Day Weekend Traffic Initiative. Traffic officers stopped an eastbound Suzuki GXR Motorcycle travelling 165 km/hour on Highway 401 in Lakeshore.

OPP say the 39-year-old male rider from Belle River was not able to produce any vehicle documentation for his motorcycle, his bike was subsequently impounded for seven days, and his license was immediately suspended.

The OPP have charged him with:

  • Stunt Driving
  • Fail to have Insurance Card
  • Operate Motor Vehicle without Insurance
  • Fail to Surrender Permit for Vehicle
  • Fail to Surrender Licence

OPP media officer Stephanie Moniz relayed that the driver told officers he was “just out for a drive”.
