The new VIA station is depicted as it is to look when landscaped

Work is complete and Windsor’s new VIA Rail station in Walkerville has opened its doors to travellers.

The new station, which had been scheduled to open to the public “sometime in the fall” according to VIA, opened its doors yesterday.

The station features over 100 seats, has a glass arc roof and is very much open inside.

VIA says the building meets full accessibility standards and features a geo-thermal, in-floor heating/cooling system to boost energy efficiency.

Like with most VIA stations, passengers and visitors can access free WiFi.

The new station was designed by Myk Wasylko and was constructed by Loaring Construction.

VIA is in the process of moving its customer support services to the new station, and soon the old ailing Windsor VIA station will be demolished to make way for a parking lot.
