Windsor Police have released further details on last night’s standoff at Ottawa Street and Parent Avenue.

Around 7pm, Police were dispatched to the 900 block of Ottawa Street (near Parent) for a report of a male acting erratically.

Callers described the man as a white male with a shaved head and tattoos and wearing only shorts waving a machete.

Police say his behaviour was described as “agitated and out of control.”

Upon arrival, officers learned that the male had returned to his apartment in the 900 block of Ottawa Street. Early into the investigation, police were able to establish that the male was the only person in the building.

The man was observed yelling at police from his apartment window. Police set up a perimeter of the building and attempted to negotiate with the male on the phone.

At approximately 5:30am the Windsor Police Emergency Services Unit entered the male’s apartment and arrested him without incident. The weapon was located and seized by police. The male was transported to hospital for observation. No one was injured during this incident.

The 36 year old Windsor man will be charged with weapons-related offences.
