Windsor Police have two brothers in custody following a road rage incident that sent two men — including an elderly man — to hospital with injuries.

On Tuesday around 9:55am, Windsor Police officers were called to the area of Wyandotte Street West and Crawford Avenue for a man witnessing an assault. Officers found EMS attending to an 81 year old male driver and his 55 year old male passenger. The 81 year old had redness and swelling to his face and eyes, deep scrapes to his elbow and knee and complained of soreness to his right arm while the 55 year old passenger had redness, swelling and cut under right eye, a cut and swelling to the bridge of his nose and scrapes on his elbow and back. Both men were transported to hospital by ambulance with non life threatening injuries.

Police investigators determined that that the 81 year old driver and 55 year old passenger were travelling northbound on Crawford approaching Wyandotte in a white Caravan.

Police say their vehicle was passed and then cut off by a red Pontiac. At the intersection of Crawford and Wyandotte, the red Pontiac was blocking the pedestrian crosswalk and was impeding the path of a man crossing the street in a motorized wheelchair. The driver of the Pontiac exchanged strong words with the pedestrian. Feeling as though the pedestrian was being harassed, the 81 year old driver of the Caravan honked his horn and yelled out to the pedestrian to see if he was alright.

The passenger of the Pontiac exited the vehicle and approached the 55 year old passenger in the Caravan. The passenger from the Pontiac reached into the Caravan and grabbed a coffee that the 55 year old victim was holding. Police say he spilled the coffee all over the victim’s lap. The victim exited the vehicle and was further assaulted by the male.

The 81 year old driver exited the vehicle to try to stop the fighting. The driver of the Pontiac approached the 81 year old victim and assaulted him by throwing him to the ground. He then proceeded to join in the assault on the 55 year old victim who was punched and kicked. A passerby observed what was taking place and alerted Windsor Police. The 81 year old victim was able to get a license plate number from the vehicle as the two males fled the scene.

At approximately 2:30pm police received a call for two suspicious males in the Pontiac in the 600 block of Grove Avenue. Police visited the address and found the two men — with blood stains on their clothes — and the red Pontiac. The men arrested without incident.

Windsor Police have charged John Schreiner, a 21 year old Windsor man and his brother Wayne Schreiner, a 30-year-old Windsor man with two counts of assault each.
