Windsor firefighters have extinguished a serious house fire in a classically designed brick home at 664 Moy Avenue.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 7:50pm for a report of smoke coming from the roof. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the third floor/attic area and began an assault on the flames.

Fire crews scaled the roof with ladders and cut holes for ventilation and extinguished the fire.

Fire did not spread to other parts of the house.

About fifty people gathered to watch the scene of the fire. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Damage is extensive and is expected to be more than $100,000.

A fire investigator determined that a lightning strike from tonight’s storms caused the blaze.
