Just after 6pm last night, two vehicles were stopped at a red light in the left turn lane at Ouellette and Tecumseh. One of the drivers — who police refer to as “impatient” — began honking and waving at the truck ahead telling him to go on through the red light.
The impatient driver then nudged the pick up truck in front of him into the red light. The driver of the truck got out to see what damage there was and to talk to the impatient driver.
When then driver of the truck got to the vehicle behind him he saw the driver was heavily under the influence of alcohol, so he grabbed the drunk driver’s keys. Another car pulled up alongside the two and the driver of the truck had them call the police.
The driver of the car that pulled up got out of his car and happened to be an off duty OPP officer. The officer was told the impatient driver was drunk. The impatient driver then tried to leave the scene on foot but was apprehended and arrested by the officer.
The man was then taken to Windsor police headquarters for a breathalyzer test.
The 54-year-old male driver of the truck has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and refusing a breathalyzer test. His car was impounded for a mandatory seven days for refusal of the breath test.
