Stevie Rae’s South Western Drive-In Theater on Richardson Side Road in Tilbury (Chatham-Kent) — just steps from where Essex County ends — is set to open this Friday July 20th.

The drive-in features space for 178 vehicle positioned in front of a giant 60×40 movie screen. Unlike the drive-ins of old, there will be no need to hang speakers on your car windows to hear sound. The new drive-in will feature a way to hear the movie’s sound transmitted through your vehicle’s on an FM radio frequency.

Stevie Rae’s also will have plenty of space for lawn chair seating with nearby outdoor speakers.

Construction crews were putting finishing touches on the property — including installing the screen — over the weekend.

Gates open at 6pm with with a double feature of Dark Shadows and The Dark Night Rises starting at dusk.

You can check their website for more information.

Nothing like seeing a movie at the Drive-In. My wife and I used to drive all the way to Hanover, ON. up until a few years ago. Took us back to the late-70s/early-80s in Chatham. They even had the dancing hotdogs on the screen and the announcer with the oh-so-Canadian-accent-of-yore during intermission. AWESOME!
