Windsor Police have a 17 year old teenager in custody after a purse snatching attack on a senior citizen.

Police say that on Saturday evening around 4:30pm, a 68-year-old woman and her 71-year-old husband were walking in the parking lot of the Giant Tiger store on Tecumseh Road East when a young teenager approached them and asked the woman what time it was. As she checked her watch, the teenager grabbed her purse and pulled it from her grasp.

The teenager then fled the scene, but a witnesses in the lot gave chase on foot and the victim’s husband began to search for the suspect in his vehicle. The suspect surrendered the purse in the area of Norman Road and Adstoll Avenue and then fled into a rear residential yard, jumping a fence.

Responding officers flooded the area and eventually found the teenager in the back yard of a residence in the 2400 block of Olive Road. He was arrested without incident.

A 17-year-old male has been charged with Robbery. The 68-year-old woman suffered a minor injury to her finger during the struggle.
