The Windsor Police Major Crimes Branch, the Arson Unit, the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office and the Coroners’ Office is conducting an investigation into to this morning’s fire at 2318 Meighen Street in East Windsor.

Heavy smoke was visible across the neighbourhood near Windsor’s Chrysler assembly plant just before 6am this morning. Arriving firefighters noted heavy smoke was visible from Tecumseh Road. Fire officials reported that the initial 911 call came from the Tim Hortons at Tecumseh Road East and Chandler after smoke was seen high above the neighbourhood.

Firefighters conducted a search of the house and found a 28-year-old female patient in a bedroom with no vital signs. Fire crews performed CPR on the woman prior to the arrival of an ambulance.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished within a half hour.

The female was a resident of 2318 Meighen Street. An autopsy will be performed Monday June 11th, 2012 in London.

A 29-year-old male who also lived at 2318 Meighen has been arrested for narcotics related offences and is currently in police custody.

The identities of the female who passed away and the arrested male are not being released at this time pending notification of family members and further investigation.
