UPDATE: The opening date has been set (click here)

The drive-in movie theater experience is coming back to the Windsor-Essex/Chatham-Kent area!

Stevie Rae’s South Western Drive-In Theater is currently under construction on Richardson Sideroad in Tilbury in Chatham-Kent — just steps from where Essex County ends.

The drive-in will feature space for 178 vehicle positioned in front of a giant 60×40 movie screen. Unlike the drive-ins of old, there will be no need to hang speakers on your car windows to hear sound. The new drive-in will feature a way to hear the movie’s sound transmitted through your vehicle’s on an FM radio frequency.

Stevie Rae’s will also have space for lawn chair seating with nearby outdoor speakers. The owners have set aside land to build a second screen in the near future. Stevie Rae’s South Western Drive-In Theater is expected to be open around mid-July of this year.

You can check out their website for construction updates and also vote on movies you would like to see!

Hope they host a battery charger/jumper on site; they’ll need it.

I think they should maintain a few rows of speakers, just for nostalgia’s sake.
