Environment Canada and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment have issued a smog advisory for Windsor, and Essex County for Monday.
Monday will be a day of elevated air pollution. The air quality index is expected to exceed the poor threshold of 50, due to ground level ozone. The weather will be sunny and hot with southwest winds due to a stagnant weather pattern. Pollutants from U.S. and Ontario sources will accumulate and react with sunlight to form photochemical smog.
Hot and humid air is forecast to move into Southern Ontario on Monday. Some of the hottest temperatures so far this season are expected, likely surpassing 30°c or 90°f in most areas away from the cooler Great Lakes, and reaching 33 or 34 in some locales. The hot temperatures combined with increasing humidity will result in humidex values in the high 30’s in most regions.
