Recently an eight day road safety blitz was held in Windsor as part of Canada Road Safety Week, which is a collaborative effort by all Canadian Police Services to aggressively enforce the laws that govern high risk activities of motorists.
This week specifically intended to focus on safe driving practices and is timed to coincide with Canada’s first holiday weekend of the summer. Locally, the campaign ran from Monday May 14th through Monday May 21st.
Windsor Police have released the following statistics from the week:
10 Driving suspensions issued related to alcohol.
14 Distracted Driving charges (cell phone/hand-held device)
4 Seat Belt charges
2 Driving while under suspension charges
36 Other Provincial Traffic charges (no driver’s licence, expired validation tags etc.)
17 Roadside tests administered.
12 Warnings issued
– Speeding – 122 charges
– Stunt Driving – 1 charge (164km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone)
– Red light violations – 3
– Stop Sign violations – 3
