Considering that the band’s name is synonymous with a great time, it’s no wonder that Five Alarm Funk’s show on Tuesday night at Phog Lounge was a huge success.

It’s a good thing that the crowd was so appreciative, considering these guys have driven all the way from Vancouver with ten dudes in one van, but it was for more than fear of retribution that everyone cheered the roof off of the place after each song.

FAF is a group with a very unique sound, driven by percussion, fuelled by horns, and spiced up by guitars and funky bass, this band creates a melodic cacophony of sound, side effects of which include involuntary body movement and shouting. Performed with vigor and choreographed dance moves, once these guys get going, they are impossible to ignore. All the people walking by the venue who were drawn in to stare amazed through the windows can testify to this fact.

As insatiable as Windsor music fans generally are, even after two long sets the crowd was still screaming for more when the end finally did come, and were cheered by the announcement of the chance of an upcoming Ontario tour, where the band will hopefully return to town.

A number of the songs played last night were from the band’s most recent release, Rock the Sky, a disc with some awesome cover art, available here, and more than worth checking out.

Also, there are more photos here.
