A police investigation continues after a vehicle struck an eight year old girl on the city’s east side at the start of the Thursday afternoon rush hour at the corner of Drouillard Road and Reginald Street.

Police say that a 2009 Dodge Journey driven by a 24-year-old male was northbound on Drouillard Road approaching Reginald Street and as the vehicle approached, the eight year old girl who was standing on the southeast corner of the intersection began to cross Drouillard Road in a westbound direction and was struck by the front end of the vehicle. The impact caused the child to become air-borne and she landed in the middle of the roadway.

The girl was transported to Hotel – Dieu Hospital and later transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. At the time of her transfer, the patient was listed as suffering from serious non-life threatening injuries and in stable condition.

Police say that their investigation is continuing and charges have not been laid against the driver of the vehicle. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or with any information regarding the collision is asked to call the Windsor Police Traffic Follow Up Unit at 519-244-6700 ext 4211.
