On any given night in Windsor you can find some sort of musical happenings somewhere. Whether it’s live bands playing originals or covers, open mics, or karaoke, there is always something. On Wednesday, April 25th, listeners were lucky enough to have the choice between two touring acts, in addition to the regularly schedules festivities.

Down in the west end at The Dominion House Tavern (3140 Sandwich St.) Calgary rockers Caught Off Guard were playing a solo set.

Kicked off by some acoustic tracks performed by the guitarist, these guys certainly brought the party to this old bar. For fans of The Johnstones or Street Pharmacy, Caught Off Guard blend punk rock, ska, and hip-hop, tossing in some metal and surf here and there.  Their live show was high-energy, band members unhindered by cords, thanks to their use of wireless systems. Currently in the middle of a cross Canada tour, the Windsor date marked three weeks on the road; about halfway through their adventure to the east coast and back. Good luck to them on the rest of their trip, can’t wait to catch them again their next time in town.

Over at Phog Lounge we had an east-coast group; Cousins were visiting from Halifax during their North American tour, bringing their shoe-gaze-garage-pop to everyone’s favourite venue. A two piece of drums, guitar, vocals, and an extra kick drum, this duo commanded the attention of the crowded bar. There was a fair bit of hype leading up to this performance, and I don’t think anyone in attendance was disappointed with what they saw and heard, the entire crowd continuously calling for another song. To these two also, good luck on the remainder of your tour!

So there you have it, folks; even on a weeknight in Windsor there is always something fun to do, you’ve just gotta know where to look.

Check out the rest of the photos from these sets here.
