Riverside Drive East at Buckingham (Google Streetview)

Windsor Police are continuing their investigation into a collision involving two unmarked police vehicles that we told you about last evening.  The accident occurred yesterday afternoon in the city’s east side shortly after 4:30pm at the intersection of Riverside Drive East at Buckingham.

As a result of the crash, an unmarked grey four door sedan came to rest on the front yard located at 211 Buckingham Road, which is on the south-west corner of the intersection. The sedan had sustained heavy front end damage. The sedan had struck a fire hydrant and a tree located on the property. A second vehicle, an unmarked Traffic Enforcement Ford F-150 pick up truck was parked on Buckingham Rd. with moderate damage to the left front corner.

Police report that the grey sedan was being driven by a plainclothes officer involved in an investigation and had been travelling westbound on Riverside Drive approaching Buckingham Road. As the officer came around the left curve approaching Buckingham. The officer driving the sedan said that he observed the F-150 also on Riverside Drive west bound approaching Buckingham slowing down. The officer driving the sedan pulled out to the left in an attempt to overtake the F-150 but in the process, the officer driving the F-150 began to turn left from Riverside Drive onto Buckingham striking the passing sedan.

As a result of the collision, the officer driving the sedan received minor injuries. The officer driving the F-150 was not injured. No other vehicles were involved in the collision and no citizens were injured as a result. The investigation is continuing and charges under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario are pending.

The Windsor Police Service is requesting that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have information regarding the collision to contact the Traffic Investigation Unit at 519-255-6700 ext. 4211
