The execution of a search warrant at a west side residence has resulted in a number of drug related charges being laid against a 35-year-old Windsor man.

Just after 1pm yesterday, the Windsor Police Drugs and Guns Unit executed a search warrant at a residence located at 702 Rankin Avenue, where they found a hydroponic cannabis marihuana grow operation located in the basement. Police seized a total of 619 cannabis marihuana plants ranging from 3′-5′ in height. The estimated value of the plants totaled $619,000. Equipment consistent with a marihuana grow operation was also seized.

Police report that their investigation revealed that the house did not appear to be inhabited and was a rental property.

The 35-year-old Windsor man faces a number of charges including Unlawfully Producing a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Windsor police would like to remind the citizens of Windsor to be cognizant of suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods and to call the Windsor Police Service or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 519-258-TIPS(8477) if they suspect that a residence is being utilized as a cannabis marihuana grow operation. Indicators may include homes with covered windows, no garbage bags at the curb on refuse collection days and a lack of evidence of people residing at the home.
