Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital is launching a new annual physician’s award to recognize excellence in care, service and commitment to patients.  The Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital Award for Physician Excellence will be given to an hospital physician this year for the first time.

Hôtel-Dieu Grace  Chief of Staff Dr. Gord Vail came up with the idea after attending a tribute event for his best friend at the Arizona Mayo Clinic in March 2011. Vail notes that while the hospital has traditionally recognized excellence in nursing and all HDGH employees for years of service, there was no hospital-based recognition specifically for an individual  Hôtel-Dieu Grace physician.

“This annual award will be an opportunity to highlight a top physician at HDGH,” said Vail, who will gather together an HDGH panel to decide on candidates. “It may be a physician known to the community, or little known. It could recognize many years of service; a unique skill set; above-and-beyond approaches to patient care; or a combination of these and other factors.”

The announcement of the award will be made at a tribute dinner at a date to be determined, with costs for the dinner covered through sponsorship and not the hospital’s budget.

Windsor-Essex residents are welcome to provide their own suggestions based on care received at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital.

Individuals wishing to nominate a physician can contact the Hôtel-Dieu Grace Medical Affairs office at 519-973-4411 ext. 3289.
