Windsor Police have a suspect in custody facing charges after a man was stabbed at the corner of Parent Avenue at Assumption Street last night.

Police say that the two men knew each other and that while walking on Wyandotte Street East near Parent Avenue the two met and began arguing over drug related issues. At this time, the argument escalated and the victim ran from the suspect.

As the victim attempted to flee, he was stabbed in the back by the suspect who then fled the scene. When police arrived they found the 30-year-old man bleeding from a small puncture wound on his back.

Paramedics transported the victim to Hotel Dieu Hospital where he was treated for minor, non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation led police to an apartment at 445 Glengarry Avenue. Officers were admitted entry to the apartment by the occupant and located the suspect attempting to hide on the adjacent balcony of the apartment where he was arrested without incident.

A search of the suspect failed to locate a knife. The weapon still has not been located as of this writing.

Albert Gopie aged 25 years of Cambridge is facing charges of Assault With a Weapon, Uttering Threats to Cause Death and Failing to Comply with a Court Imposed Condition.
