At 12:30pm Sunday afternoon police were dispatched to the area of Puce River and Lake St. Clair for an overturned canoe approximately 400 yards off shore.

Two 18 years old teenagers ventured out into the open water with their canoe when it over turned in 4 feet of water.

Both teens attempted to walk back to shore, but only the 18-year-old male made it back. The Canadian and US Coast guard began a search for the female, but at 7pm the OPP called off the search.

Police say that the search for the female has changed from a rescue effort to a recovery effort. The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit will begin an underwater search in the morning.

The 18 yrs old male has been treated for Hypothermia and he has been released from hospital.

Police say that both teens were not wearing life jackets. The temperature of the water at the time of this incident was 2 degrees Celsius.

No names to be released at this time until proper identification has been established
