Windsor Police are requesting that a man who witnessed a motor vehicle collision early Wednesday morning on the E.C. Row Expressway contact them at the earliest possible opportunity.

Police say that the accident happened at 2am on the E.C. Row Expressway South Service Road near Conservation Drive, and when they arrived they found a silver coloured Mazda with damage to the front and back ends at rest on the South Service Road. The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man was with the vehicle and was not injured.

A witness at the scene told police that he had been driving eastbound on the E.C. Row Expressway approaching the Walker Road exit and observed the Mazda overtake his vehicle at a high rate of speed also eastbound on E.C. Row. The witness said he saw the Mazda leave the roadway onto the right shoulder, skid through the grassy shoulder, then crash through the chain link fence separating the Expressway from the South Service Road and come to rest on the South Service Road near Conservation Drive.

The responding officers requested that the witness remain at the scene in order to provide a statement regarding the collision, however while the officers were speaking with the driver of the Mazda and assessing the damage to the vehicle, the witness left the area prior to officers being able to obtain his information.

Police are asking that the witness contact the Traffic Follow Up Unit at 519-255-6700 ext 4218 in order to assist in this collision investigation.

The witness is described as a 30-year-old white male with short black hair, wearing a wool toque and a light coloured, 3/4 length coat. He was driving a silver coloured four door car.

Any other witnesses who may have observed the collision are also asked to contact police as well. The 21-year-old driver of the Mazda was charged with Careless Driving.
