Elsmere Avenue approaching Giles Blvd (Google Streetview)

A 61-year-old man was assaulted early Saturday morning by a man wielding a pipe in the area of Elsmere Avenue near Giles Blvd.

The victim had walked from his home to the 7/11 Store located at Ottawa Street at Parent Avenue just after 4am to get a coffee. While walking back home on the west side of Elsmere Avenue approaching Giles Blvd., a black male started walking toward him on the sidewalk. As the two passed each other, the black male pulled out a 15 ” piece of metal pipe and struck the victim on the top of his head causing the laceration. The victim remained on his feet but dropped the coffee on the ground. The suspect did not attempt to rob the victim of any possessions. The suspect ran away southbound on Elsmere and the victim ran back to his residence where he summoned a taxi cab to take him to the hospital.

The 61-year-old man received a laceration to the top of his head, which was considered as non-life threatening but required a number of stitches to close.

The suspect is described as a male black, approximately 18 years, light-skinned, with a short, square-shaped afro. He was 5’7″ with a stocky build and a chubby face.

Officers searched the area where the assault occurred but could not locate the suspect. Anyone with any information regarding this assault or the identity of the suspect is asked to call Windsor Police Investigations at 519-255-6700 ext 4323 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 519-258-TIPS (8477).
