Elm Street on the city's west side (Google Street View)

A family dispute left three people injured on the city’s west side late Monday afternoon.

Just before 5pm, Windsor Police were called to a home in the 200 block of Elm Street for a report of a domestic argument with one of the participants in possession of a knife. When Police arrived they found a 36-year-old man bleeding from a laceration to the palm of his left hand. The man told police that his brother had attempted to stab him and that his brother and mother were inside the home fighting over a knife.

Police then entered the home where they found the brother and mother in the kitchen struggling with each other for control of a large kitchen knife. Police ordered both parties to drop the knife and upon hearing this demand, the knife fell to the floor and the mother and son separated, and Police immediately arrested the 34-year-old brother.

Both the mother and brother revealed multiple lacerations to both of their hands resulting from the struggle over the knife. All three persons were transported to Hotel-Dieu and Windsor Regional Hospitals where they were treated and released for non-life threatening lacerations to their hands.

Windsor Police say that this all began when the 34-year-old man, his brother and mother were inside the residence when an argument ensued. The 34-year-old grabbed a kitchen knife with an 18 cm blade and attempted to stab his brother. The brother managed to grab the blade of the knife and snap the blade off causing his wounds and then ran outside.

The 34-year-old then grabbed another knife and attempted to cut his mother. The mother also grabbed the blade and was able to wrestle the knife from her son causing her injuries. It was during this struggle that police arrived and arrested the 34-year-old.

The 34-year-old man is in custody and will be charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault.
