An iconic and hard-to-miss highrise in Downtown Windsor is being recommended as an addition to Windsor’s Municipal Heritage Registry.

The Metropolitan Guaranty Trust Building at the corner of Victoria and University Avenue West was built around 1928 and is a ten-storey light-coloured brick structure with “Art Deco details”.

As a result of being placed on the Heritage Register, property owners looking to demolish must give the City of Windsor sixty days notice and have demolition approved by City Council so as to protect these historic structures.

This is a gem of a building, I hope it never gets demolished!

I would love though if they could actually get tennants IN the building though. It’s sad to see it still vacant since HSBC left the building.

There are still too many vacancies downtown. As far as heritage goes Windsor has a terrible track record of tearing everything down. For a city that was founded in the 1800′s it looks like it was founded in the 1960′s.
