Robbery Suspect Photo from Windsor Police

Windsor Police are investigating after two separate robberies last night and early this morning believed to be committed by the same suspect.

Just after 9pm last evening, police were called to The Corner Store located at 400 Chippawa Street. The 51-year-old male store clerk told police that a lone male suspect with his face partially covered and carrying a “claw hammer” entered the store, approached the counter where the clerk was sitting.

The suspect then jumped up onto the counter and demanded money from the cash register while brandishing the hammer in a threatening manner toward the clerk. The clerk complied and handed the suspect a quantity of cash.

The suspect then jumped off the counter and fled the store on foot in a southbound direction. The clerk was not physically injured during the robbery.

The suspect was captured on surveillance video committing the robbery. A K9 track of the suspect proved negative.

Then at 1am, police were called to the Esso Gas Station located at 2900 Howard Avenue also for a report of a robbery where the suspect was carrying a “claw hammer”.

The 22-year-old male clerk reported that the suspect, with his face partially covered and carrying a hammer, entered the store and confronted the clerk behind the counter demanding money from the till.

The clerk refused to hand over any money and the suspect ran out of the store fleeing eastbound on foot. The clerk was not physically injured during this attempt. A K9 Unit attended the scene but was unable to track the suspect.

This suspect was also captured on store surveillance video. The suspect in both robberies is described as a male, 20-25 years, of middle eastern descent, 5’10”, with a medium build, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black track pants with white stripes down the legs, black Adidas running shoes with three white stripes.

The suspect also was wearing a dark scarf or shirt partially covering his face.

Investigators believe that the same suspect is responsible for both robberies and are asking that anyone with information as to the identity of the suspect or with any information regarding the robberies to call Windsor Police Investigations at 519-255-6700 ext 4830 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 519-258-TIPS (8477).
